The University of Pisa has officially inaugurated the Foundation Course, the program of study principally aimed at international students who do not possess the minimum schooling requirements set by current legislation for enrolment at Italian Universities. The University of Pisa, is the first and for the moment the only Italian University to have activated this important course of studies, which has been present in the most important European universities for many years. By attending the Foundation Course and passing the relative exams, students will subsequently be able to continue with their academic career enrolling onto a Bachelors degree programme.
The University of Pisa offers two different programmes, a humanistic one (Foundation Course Humanities – FCH) and a scientific one (Foundation Course Science – FCS). The contents of the lessons of the FCS has been thought out taking into consideration the necessary preparation for passing the entry tests both for Medicine as well as for scientific degree programmes, for example, Engineering and Pharmacy.
With a small welcome ceremony at Polo Fibonacci, the new Foundation Course in Science (FCS) started at the University of Pisa. In the presence of students from various countries (Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Venezuela, India, The Netherlands, Zimbabwe, Pakistan) Professor Chiara Roda (the Scientific Manager of the FCS) spoke, as well as the lecturers of the various teaching courses: Benedetta Mennucci, Jeannette Lucejko, Nicola Meccheri, Laura Mascia, Susanna Pecchia, Eugene Stepanov, Andrea Corradini and Paola Cappelini (Head of the International Cooperation Office at the University of Pisa).
The Foundation Course in Humanities (FCH) has also been inaugurated at Palazzo Ricci in the presence of students from Azerbaijan and Russia. Professor Arturo Marzano (the Scientific Manager of the FCH) spoke, as well as Matteo Caponi (History Lecturer) and Anna Maria Lossi (Philosophy Lecturer).
Furthermore, students enrolled onto the FC, alongside the relative lessons in the chosen subject, will follow an Italian Language Course at the University Linguistic Centre (CLI), with the aim of giving them the basics to be able to deal with, in the future, a degree course taught entirely in Italian.
