Mario Giorgi, Professor of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Department of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Pisa, was awarded the title of Doctorate Honoris Causa in Veterinary Medicine by Kasetsart University in Bangkog on 8 October, a highly prestigious recognition of his career. Founded on 2 February 1943, Kasetsart University is one of the top public universities in Thailand and the third oldest university in the country.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Thai University was the first to award Prof. Giorgi a Doctorate Honoris Causa, in recognition of his “unparalleled ability and lifelong contribution to learning, science and society in the field of Veterinary Medicine”, according to the citation.
"I would like to thank all the Rectors I have met since arriving at the University of Pisa for their unconditional support for research and internationalisation, and to share this recognition with them,” said Mario Giorgi. " I would also like to thank our Internationalisation Unit, which has always been active and competent; the various heads of departments, who have been willing to let me host international researchers; the directors of all the courses of study who have always allowed me to plan my teaching around my mobility requests. I would also like to thank my colleagues who generously allowed me to change my timetable; the researchers who collaborated with me and to all the staff in my department who made my work easier through simple gestures. This award is like a jigsaw puzzle in which every piece has contributed to the final result”.
Professor at the University of Pisa since 2001, Mario Giorgi graduated in pharmaceutical chemistry in 1997 and in applied pharmacology in 2001. He has been a “visiting professor” in foreign institutions (Poland, Australia, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Iran, China and Israel) for research and teaching exchanges. His main areas of research range from innovations in veterinary pain management to new therapeutic protocols for anti-infective agents in farm animals. He is editor of the international reference journal in his scientific field, scientific advisor to European and non-European countries and author of more than 220 peer-reviewed scientific articles.
