The University of Pisa welcomes three new Circle U. Ambassadors, ready to promote the initiatives of the European University Alliance within the student community. Agata Merian Bernacca, Susanna De Luca and Anna Terroni have in fact joined the group of Circle U. Ambassadors working in each of the nine universities that make up the European Alliance.
The role of the new ambassadors will be crucial in raising the visibility of Circle U. and encouraging greater student participation in the many activities promoted by the Alliance, with the support of the University offices. Indeed, with the launch of the Open Campus, Circle U.’s educational offerings are growing, with numerous online courses, Summer and Winter Schools, and many opportunities for mobility available to the entire Alliance student community. The Ambassadors will be tasked with organising events and meetings, developing initiatives, workshops and competitions, and collaborating on communication and content production, including with European colleagues.
But who are these three ambassadors? We asked them to introduce themselves to the student community and tell us how excited they are about this new experience.
Agata Merian Bernacca
Hello, I'm Agata Bernacca, I’m from Lucca and I’m studying Medicine and Surgery at the University of Pisa. I participated in the Model United Nations (MUN) at UCLouvain organised by Circle U.: it was one of the first events attended by my university, so I was really excited! Although it seemed far away from my field of study, it was a highly formative experience because I was able to learn important skills in problem solving, teamwork and more. I am honoured to have been chosen for the role of Ambassador and I will do my utmost to promote the activities organised by the Alliance and to give my colleagues the opportunity to participate and develop their skills in an international and stimulating environment.
Susanna De Luca
Hello everyone! My name is Susanna, I am from Lucca, and I am one of the new Circle U. Ambassadors for the University of Pisa! During my academic career I graduated in Communication Sciences and decided to continue my studies in the master’s degree course in Humanistic Informatics. I have always been fascinated by international contexts, which is why Circle U. is the perfect place for me to experiment and grow both formally and socially. I became aware of the existence of this alliance by sheer chance: it was last February and I was lost in research for my bachelor’s thesis when I was surfing on the university website and came across a course held by Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin on Climate Change, which turned out to be a real find. I am eager to contribute to the Circle U. initiative and look forward to sharing my passion for internationalism with my colleagues at the University of Pisa!
Anna Terroni
Hello, my name is Anna Terroni, I am from La Spezia, and I am a first-year PhD student in Italian Studies at the University of Pisa. I got to know the Circle U. Alliance thanks to my tutor, Professor Michelangelo Zaccarello – Academic Chair of the Multilingualism, Interculturality and Language Lab (CU.mil) and one of the organisers of the Sustainable "WINE" Intensive Week to be held in Pisa from 3 to 7 February 2025 – who advised me to approach this reality, given my inclination to exchange and collaborate with university environments outside Italy. I have been pleasantly surprised by the enthusiasm and spirit within the Alliance and I am delighted to embark on this new adventure as Ambassador. I am looking forward to introducing other students to the activities organised by Circle U. and to participating directly in the events, which will be an opportunity not only from an educational point of view but also for my personal growth.
