On Monday 2nd February a delegation from Jyoti Nivas College (Autonomous) in Bangalore visited the University of Pisa. The college is a prestigious Indian institution that has been awarded the highest rank by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) and described by UGC, the University Grants Commission, as a 'College of Excellence'. Their rector, Dr. Sr. Elizabeth C.S., together with ten other professors from various disciplines - Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences, Botany and Electronics - were welcomed to the rectorate by staff from the International Office at the University of Pisa.
After having introduced each of their universities, the two educational institutions discussed the possibility of starting an exchange programme within the English-taught Master's Degree programmes held at Pisa, while also considering the option of single semester exchanges. The Indian University moreover has expressed interest in the Summer Schools hosted by the University of Pisa, and invited delegates from Pisa to visit their college in order to evaluate their quality of teaching and research for themselves. A Memorandum of General Understanding will soon be signed, after which more specific cooperative formalities will be made.
