Over the last few weeks 17 students arrived in Pisa from Egypt, Morocco, Kirghizstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Serbia and presently the selection notice calling for lecturers and doctoral students from the University of Pisa will be published, offering the chance to spend a period of time studying or teaching in those countries which had previously been excluded from the Erasmus mobility program. “International Credit Mobility KA 107” is one of the major innovations introduced into the Erasmus+ program in which the University of Pisa is a forerunner in Italy. What may be defined as “Erasmus outside Europe” allows both the academic staff (lecturers and technicians) and students in higher education “beyond Europe” to participate in a mobility experience in Europe and vice versa.
“After almost 30 years of Erasmus we are now entering a new phase,” says Professor Ann Katherine Isaacs, the Dean’s delegate for the European programs. “With Erasmus+, the international mobility programs have taken a step forward opening up to other areas in the world. The University of Pisa can take credit for setting up mobility projects with 14 countries outside Europe with Central Asia taking first place. From here, mobility back and forth from the University of Pisa appears to be more than 6% of the entire European mobility. In a number of countries such as Tajikistan and Turkmenistan it is the first time that agreements of this nature have been made.”
The countries with which the University of Pisa has opened 145 mobility programs are Cambodia, China, Laos, Mongolia, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Kirghizstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Israel, Morocco and Serbia. Over the last few weeks, the University of Pisa organized the first two Staff Training visits for this project: the first with the coordinators from universities in Uzbekistan (Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute, Andjan State University, Namangan Institute of Engineering and Technology), Morocco (Cadi Ayyad University) and Egypt (Alexandria University).
The second with the coordinators from Qingdao Agricultural University (China), Zhejiang Ocean University (China), Vietnam National University of Agriculture Hanoi (Vietnam), Savannakhet University (Laos), Mongolian State University of Life Sciences (Mongolia), Mongolian University of Science and Technology (Mongolia), International Information Technology University (Kazakhstan), M. Auezov South Kazakhstan State University (Kazakhstan), International University of Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyzstan), Naryn State University (Kyrgyzstan), Cadi Ayyad University (Morocco), Suez Canal University (Egypt), University of Novi Sad (Serbia).
The guest coordinators visited various departments and presented their universities at a meeting with the International Coordinators (CAI) from Pisa in order to create a broader, reciprocal acquaintance and facilitate future relations.
