They are guests of the University of Pisa for a week, and they will be able to become familiar with various structures of the university and visit the city. They are participants in one of the staff training week organized in the framework of the International Credit Mobility KA 107, a programme which can be defined “Erasmus outside Europe” or, better, outside the European Union and the other countries normally admitted to Erasmus+: one of our guests comes from Serbia. The programme allows academic staff, professors and technical-administrative personnel, as well as university students enrolled in institutions of higher education in ‘partner countries’ to participate in mobility to European institutions, and vice versa.

International Credit Mobility KA 107 is one of the important new action lines introduced by the Erasmus+ Programme; and in this respect the University of Pisa is one of the pioneers in Italy. Thanks to the ICM initiative individual mobility is now possible with non-EU countries in the Balkans, and with non-European countries from Southeast Asia, to Central Asia, to China, the Near East and North Africa. The participants in the staff training week are Thanyaxay Kankong (Savannakhet University – Lao), Guo Guannan (Guangxi University - China), Janara Baitugolova (Naryn State University - Kyrgyzstan), Bolortuya Myagmarsuren (MUST - Mongolia), Zahra Ait Malek e Asma El Hachadi (Université Cadi Ayyad, Marrakech - Morocco).

This week teaching staff are also visiting the University of Pisa thanks to the KA 107 framework: professors Biljana Šimunović Bešlin (University of Novi Sad - Serbia) and Bayarsaikhan Dashdondog (NUM - Mongolia) are teaching in the Department of Civilizations and Forms of Knowledge; and Lai Thi Ngoc (Vietnam National University of Agriculture), Rustam Daniyarov (Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute - Uzbekistan), Shaimaa Sahmoud (Suez Canal University, Egypt) and Doaa Ghareeb (Alexandria University, Egypt), are carrying out research in various university laboratories.

Interest in mobility to these countries is growing among University of Pisa staff too. The countries with which the University of Pisa has already opened the new opportunities for mobility are Cambodia, China, Lao, Mongolia, Vietnam, Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Israel, Morocco and Serbia.
