MIT-UNIPI PROJECT
The University of Pisa signed a three-year collaboration agreement (MIT-UNIPI Project) with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) of Boston, on 19 September 2012, with the aim of creating joint research projects and the exchange of students and researchers.
On 18 September 2015 the agreement was renewed for a further three years until 17 September 2018 and on 16 November 2018 there was a renewal of the agreement for another 3 years.
On 16 July 2014, the University of Pisa and the Cassa di Risparmio di San Miniato (CRSM) signed an agreement with which the CRSM undertook to support the research projects of the MIT-UNIPI Project for three years (with a loan of 30,000 euros per year), starting from the 2014 call, primarily to support joint research projects presented in the thematic area of economic / business, social and environmental sciences.
To date, 60 joint MIT-UNIPI research projects have been funded in 9 calls
The total funding from the University for the UNIPI part is 311,515.69 euros to which the 90,000 euros of the CRSM must be added.

- Department of Energy, Systems, Land and Construction Engineering: 10 projects
- Department of Computer Science: 2 projects
- Department of Mathematics: 1 project
- Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry: 6 projects
- Department of Earth Sciences: 1 project
- Department of Political Science: 1 project
- Department of Philology, Literature and Linguistics: 2 projects
- Department of Economics and Management: 3 projects
- Department of Physics: 5 projects
- Department of Biology: 4 projects
- Piaggio Center: 1 project
Total: 60 (20 projects funded to women and 40 projects funded to men)
