At an event filled with traditional dances and costumes, 130 newly enrolled students from various European and non-European countries joined in. The University of Pisa welcomed its first international students for the 2024-2025 academic year at a “Welcome Day” held at Polo Piagge, organized by the International Promotion Unit. Participants included students from diverse countries, including Congo, Ethiopia, India, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Mongolia, and Pakistan. Representatives from the Youth Health Society of Pisa, CUS Pisa, and three student representatives from the Department of Civilizations and Forms of Knowledge attended, welcoming the new arrivals to the Pisa student community.

Some students from the IISMA program presented a traditional Indonesian dance. The event was enlivened by other students wearing traditional attire from their respective countries, turning the Welcome Day into an opportunity for cultural discovery and exchange, like a journey through continents and traditions.

For the 2024-2025 academic year, over 600 international students are already enrolled at the University of Pisa, with another 400 enrollments pending. These numbers confirm a positive trend in recent years, showing a steady increase in international students at the university. Last academic year, enrollments almost doubled compared to the previous year, and as of now, four months before the deadline for visa-seeking students on February 28, 2025, attendance has already doubled compared to past years.

International students are supported through the WIS! (Welcome International Students!) office, open three mornings a week at Palazzina Modica. Staff from the International Promotion Unit, along with part-time students who collaborate with the office, provide assistance at every step of the enrollment process, helping newcomers navigate the University of Pisa and start their university experience in the best possible way.
